Chapter

3

The big fierce black dragon saw me. He took one look at me and shrieked again, low, deep and fierce.  

“’Sc-scuse me?” I squeaked.

The dragon looked at me again with no reply.

“Excuse me!” I said boldly, not so scared anymore.

Suddenly,  the black dragon spun on me, his eyes flashed ruthlessly. He clawed at my head. Luckily, I dodged his swipe. His claws narrowly missed me.  Angered by my swift move, the dragon blew black smoke all around me. I remembered my den engulfed in flames and the black smoke blinding me. These visions flashed through my brain in appalling clearity. I caught my breath.  This is the dragon that did it!  I felt rage and fear pulse through my body. I weazed and coughed, fighting for air. The smoke was too thick, I could not see. I gave up.

And fainted.  

I started, warm sunshine shining down on my back.

“Hello there, lil’ thing,” a kind voice sounded beside me. “I been waitin’ fer you’s ta wake up.”

I looked up at the dragon’s face. It looked exactly like her voice...kind. A goofy face stared down at me next to the kind looking dragon’s.

“YIPES!” the  one with the goofy face declared. “Ya ain’t lookin’ te good!”

The kind looking dragon looked surprise. “Now, Dulack, what did I tell y-”

“WE COULD BE FRIENDS WHEN YOU GET BETTER, ISN'T THAT THE BEST IDEA...hay, why are y’all starin’ at me like that...”

And that was the first time I met Dulack. The kind looking dragon’s name was Athoone, and they were mother and son. Dulack and I became fast friends and Athoone took me under her wing...literally

To years past.

“Sumo,Dulack! Please quiet down I’m trying to hunt.”  Athoone sighed again, “fine grumpy pants” Dulack snapped. (he  could be a little snappy some times.) “Ok, Mum” I replied much much More politely than dulack. “Thank you, you will both get a tern trying to hunt. ok ?”she sighed. I looked up at her and ‘smiled’ (Dragons don't smile very well), and sed “we get to hunt to day?” My chest fild with excitement. “Why, yes of course, I think you two boys are of age.” she sed. “OH YIPEE, OH YALOO, OH YASOO, OHHHHHH YES!”

Chapter 2 of Sumo

Chapter 2

When it got late, I tried to find a place to sleep, but all I could find was a large rock, that I dug a hole underneath and curled my tail around my body  to stay warm from the cold night air and hopefully drift into sleep.

Two days past, and I was starving! I had not learned how to hunt.  I would have to teach myself, but I felt too weak . . . I must try, since to do nothing would mean starvation

I thought back to the days I had watched as my Father skillfully ,either flue faster than the prey he was seeking, or cunningly hid, waiting to  strike fiercely at the unsuspecting prey.  I must give it a try, or die. I shuddered at the thought, painfully I stood up.  How do I find food? I asked myself. I had never really payed attention to how my father found the food.  Maybe I will smell for it? I tried to remember how a Noiu smelled. I remembered it smelled tangy, yet sweet. My mouth watered.

Something caught my eye. It was a small mouse-like thing. Maybe I could eat that! I thought. I lowered myself into a crouching position, creeping forward, I held my tail up high as to not make a single noise (I remembered my Father doing this)  playing with my friend came to mind, the way I leaped through the air and pounced on Chindosy. I had to do that! That was the way to hunt.

I got so excited and could not think straight. (Note to reader, if you are hunting for the first time or any time, calm yourself, something I learned the hard way). I pounced clumsily, as I was in mid air my body twisted and  I missed the mouse-like creature with my claws, and landed right on top of it sideways! As I heaved myself up, I looked down to see the poor creature squished. At least I killed it, I thought to myself.  Gingerly I took the mouse-like-thing into my mouth, and returned to my nest. It wasn’t very big, but hopefully it was enough to hold me over until I could catch something bigger.  I devoured it! It was bland and stringy, with more bones than meat, but I ate it anyway. As I choked down the last piece, I thought to myself, I hope that was edible. Even though I was still hungry I decided to explore my surroundings.  I crawled out of my nest where I had eaten my stringy mouse-like-creature, and the sunshine felt good on my shoulders. I looked around There were trees, most of which I had never seen before. The beach, which I used to see from my den, was nowhere insight. I was far from home and lost.

Five days later I was the most miserable dragon you have ever seen. I had only eaten three small and a lucky finds, and a carcass of a Noiu, Early the next morning I woke up and realized I was never going to find myself another meal if all I did was sleep.  So, I set out to find something BIG! As I walked through the forest, I heard a huge noise. Because I was young, I wasn't use to this loud noise. I scampered off to find someplace to hide. As I peeked out from my hiding place, which was a deep hole, I saw the biggest, blackest, fiercest looking dragon I had ever seen in my whole life!  When I saw it, I shrunk back deeper into my hole. As I watched the dragon let out a shriek. I hoped he hadn’t seen me. Maybe he’s friendly, I thought. I took a deep breath and stepped out of my hiding place.

First Chapter Sumo's Story

The first thing I remember was a bright sunny day on the east side of Tasma. Tasma was the short name for our land we lived on, the actual name was Tasma Plato Flammia . I was down at the beach playing with my best friend, Chindosy.

Chindosy is not a dragon like me. She is a Doradasiee. We were playing a game called Runners Ball. How it was played was someone would start with the ball and try to bury it as fast as they could while the other player  tried to get the ball away from the other opponent. Whoever buried it first won.

I had the ball and was trying to bury it as fast as I could. Chindosy was running at me, fast. Her horns weren’t fully grown yet, but they hurt just as well. I jumped away with speed like lightning. Because she had horns, I was a tad bit frightened of her myself. Another rule I forgot to mention about Runners Ball is you cannot bury the ball in the same place as the other opponent.  Chindosy grabbed the ball in a blur and ran to the other side of the beach and started to bury the ball. I wish I could work as fast as she could. I prepared myself: whoosh! I jumped into the air and tackled her. We both went tumbling to the ground in a frenzy of laughter.

A few hours later we decided to head back home. “That was fun! I  am a bit sore,” I said, as we walked back to my den.

When we arrived at my den, Chindosy’s mother was there. We wondered why, and chirped with delight to learn they would be staying for dinner.

When the time came for dinner, our families both headed out for the hunt.  Chindosy and I were too young to hunt so we just stayed behind and minded our own business. As we were playing, I heard my father screech, “Caught something!”

We all flew towards his  voice. When we got to my father, he stood over the biggest Noiu I had ever seen.

“Wow,” I marveled.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” my Father asked matter-of-factly “Dig in!”

We all ate our fill, said our goodbyes, and departed for home. When we got to our den we bedded down for the night; Mother, Father, Niyteu, Sutew, and I.

It was late when I suddenly awoke. I had a horrible pain in my left foot. I looked around. Our den was in flames. “GET OUT, GET OUT!” I heard someone scream. I didn't know which way to go. My eyes stung with smoke.I could not call for help because my throat was seared. That was the most scared I’d ever been in my life up to then. I decided to make a run for it, so I ran left. To no avail. Wham! I slammed into the rock wall. Now my head ached. I ran right. Wham! At this point I was ready to give up. One more time, I thought. I stared straight ahead. Then my world turn black.

When I woke up, I felt sore all over. I was laying on a mossy forest floor. Sunlight shone through the trees. Where am I?  I tried to stand but the pain in my left foot was too great. A sutyrd whizzed past. “Wait!” I cried,  hoping he could help. The huge bird slowed to a stop.

“ How’s can I’s help’t you’s” he said in the common sutyrd accent.

“Well,” I replied “ I'm lost and the last thing I can remember was my den on fire. I think I hit my head.”  I winced at the thought and my eyes filled with tears and trickled down my face.

“You’s poor little lad” the sutyrd sighed, then explained, “Got places to go, things to see and to do, no time for you!” With that he jumped into the air and flew away.
